AHJ office bearers elected

KARACHI: The election of Association of Health Journalists (AHJ) for 2010-12 was held at Karachi Press Club on Sunday.
According to the poll result, Tufail Ahmed (Express) was elected as President, Amar Guriro (Daily Times) as vice President, Akhter Shaheen Rind (Geo TV) as General Secretary, Sanwal Shaikh (Daily Pakistan) as Joint Secretary, M. Ibrahim Rind (PPI) as treasurer.
For the 10 seats of executive committee members, 13 candidates contested and Jamila Shahid (Daily Ehsas), Maria Ismail (Daily Barsat), Khawar Khan (FM-107), Hamid-ur-Rehman, (Shanakht.Com), Tariq Habib (Daily News), Imran-u-Rehman (Daily Parcham), Muzaffar Jeelani (Express Magzine), Ulfat Mughal (ARY), Asif Mehmood (Dawn TV) and Ali Abbas Jakhrani (Sindh TV) were elected.
The election program was supervised by election committee members Hassan Imam Siddique, Sattar Javed and Rafiq Baloch.
General Secretary Karachi Press Club (KPC), AH Khanzada, General Secretary Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ), Hassan Abbas, Ajiz Jamali and Tufail Ahmed while speaking on the occasion said that this association would make hectic efforts for ensuring medical treatment to the patients. PPI

Our aims and objectives
A. To enhance professional skills and knowledge of healthcare journalists through trainings, workshops and academic institutions etc.
B.To work for welfare of healthcare journalists and their families in all spheres of life.
C. To specially focus/promote/campaigns for proper preventive healthcare measures for general public on prevailing health issues, especially in the field of Bio-Safety and Bio-Security, communicable diseases including infections, mother and child health, legal/ethical issues in healthcare, patients rights as a consumer.
D. To establish linkages/collaboration or work in partnership with academies/ institutions/ agencies/companies working in the fields or for the betterment of health, health education, environment, especially who have recognized or work as CSR organizations/entities/companies.
E. To establish a state of the art reference library/resource centre and to provide facilities to healthcare journalists to improve their professional knowledge and skills.
F. To promote/provide cultural/entertainment and physical/sports activities/opportunities among healthcare journalists and their families.
G. To promote institutions/individuals working for the positive change/betterment of society.
H. To work with other organizations with similar objectives all over the world.
I. To do/undertake any other project/idea supporting objectives of the association.
J. To promote/encourage ethical/true/correct health journalism
K. To work with honesty, ethics and professionalism.
